No i didn't bother to go all the way to a desert, i found this dry channel which was under construction and it had nice looking cracks in it ;)

This is really good, it looks like it's taken in the middle of a desert. The angle and composition work just great. I particularly like the perspective on top left. The lighting bothers me slightly, I think the photo would be even cooler without the plant casting a shadow as that part seems it's a bit distractive, though I don't even know if it's doable, might affect the atmosphere too much.

Really good! The contrast between the dead,dry and cracked ground and the green, lively plant is great :) I like how the cracks lead your eyes first to the plant, then to it's shadow and then to the farest cracks and away. Very good composition!

I agree with you about the lighting, maybe slightly softer light would have been better.. But then again the contrast and details on the ground would have dropped...
